What's in your shower water
Standard municipal tap water in the United States — especially across California, Texas, Arizona, Florida, Nevada, New York, Illinois, and Colorado — typically contains:
- Chlorine and chloramine — added as disinfectants during water treatment. This is a public health good, and your tap water is safe. But chlorine is an oxidizing agent that reacts with keratin, roughening the hair cuticle, stripping natural oils, and increasing porosity.
