Does Veil actually work, or is it just marketing?
The mechanism is real and well documented. Chlorine is an oxidizing agent with measurable effects on keratin and sebum — this isn't disputed science. It roughens the hair cuticle, strips natural oils, increases porosity, and accelerates color fading. By reducing chlorine before it reaches your hair and skin, Veil creates a cleaner environment for the products you already use.
What's far less studied is how much visible cosmetic improvement any given person gets from removing it — that varies with your water, your hair, and your routine. We're not going to pretend otherwise. That's why the guarantee runs 60 days: so you can test it rather than take our word for it.
How long before I see results?
Filtering changes the conditions from your first shower onward, but it cannot undo damage that has already happened — hair grows out, it does not heal. So expect the decline to stop before you see improvement.
Skin usually registers first, within a few showers: less of the tight, stripped feeling afterwards. Hair takes longer — two to three months, as growth that has never met unfiltered water becomes a visible share of your length. Anyone promising transformed hair in a week is selling you something.
Will it help with color-treated hair?
This is one of the better-supported uses. Chlorine oxidizes hair dye and is a leading cause of premature color fading. Filtering it before it reaches your hair is a sensible way to extend vibrancy between salon appointments.
Will it help with eczema or sensitive skin?
We can't claim that, and you shouldn't buy Veil expecting it. Veil is a showerhead, not a treatment for any medical condition.
What we can say is that chlorine is a known skin irritant that disrupts the skin's lipid barrier, so reducing exposure may make a dry or reactive barrier feel more comfortable after showering. Eczema is a medical issue and belongs with a dermatologist — please talk to one.
Will it stop hair loss?
No. Veil is not a hair loss treatment and makes no claim to affect pattern or genetic hair loss.
What it does address is chlorine-related breakage, which can look like thinning. Reducing that source of damage may help you keep the length you already have. That's a genuinely different claim from regrowth, and we won't make the bigger one. If you're losing hair, see a dermatologist.

Is my water really that bad?

Will it soften my hard water?
No — and be skeptical of any shower filter that claims it will. Softening means ion-exchange removal of calcium and magnesium, which requires a plumbed system. Veil targets chlorine and particulates. If scale is your primary problem, a whole-house softener is the honest answer, not this.
I already have a water softener. Do I still need Veil?
They do different things. A softener addresses mineral hardness through ion exchange but does not remove chlorine or chloramine. Veil addresses the chlorine your softener leaves behind. Whether that's worth $129 to you depends on how much of your problem is chlorine versus scale — and honestly, if you've already softened your water, you may have solved the larger half.
Isn't chlorine safe? Why would it affect my hair and skin?
Chlorine at municipal levels is safe, and chlorinating drinking water is one of the great public health achievements of the last century. We're not here to tell you your tap water is dangerous.
But its effect on hair is a separate question from its safety. As an oxidizing agent, chlorine reacts with keratin — the protein your hair is made of — roughening the cuticle and increasing porosity. It also strips sebum from scalp and skin. These effects accumulate shower by shower, which is why the change tends to look gradual rather than sudden, and why it's so often mistaken for aging.

Will Veil fit my shower?
Veil is compatible with all standard ½″ NPT shower arms, which covers the vast majority of US showers. If you have an unusual fitting, email us before ordering and we'll confirm compatibility.
Will it reduce my water pressure?
It shouldn't noticeably. Filtered showerheads in this category are designed around standard US flow limits. If a filtered head ever feels weak, that's usually a cartridge past its replacement date.

How often do I need to replace the filter?
Roughly every three months for a typical household — sooner if several people shower daily, or if your water carries unusually high sediment. If the water starts feeling different again, that's your cue.
How do I replace the filter?
Unscrew the filter housing, remove the used cartridge, insert the new one, screw it back in. Under 60 seconds, no tools. Replacement cartridges are $34.
